El trabajo explora un proceso fragmentario, reciente y poco visible que tiene lugar en el
Mediterráneo: la gerontoinmigración. Es decir, ciudadanos de 55 años o más que se establecen en otro
país de manera (semi) permanente. España es uno de los destinos de esta población; también el
Algarve portugués, sur de Francia, norte de Italia, Grecia y Malta. El video combina imágenes en
temporada baja de la Costa Brava con un audio en el cual una jubilada francesa me ayuda a pronunciar
la letra de “Emmenez-moi”, canción de 1967 popularizada por Charles Aznavour sobre el deseo de
viajar al paraíso prometido por la propaganda colonialista francesa de la época. Junto al vídeo,
documentos como capturas de Google Earth o gráficos a partir de datos estadísticos.
Single-channel video (7') and digital prints
The work explores a fragmentary, recent and barely visible migration process that takes place in the
Mediterranean area: the International Retirement Migration (IRM). That is to say, those citizens
aged 55 or more who establish themselves (almost) permanently in another country. Spain is one of
the destinations of retired EU citizens, along with Algarve (Portugal), southern France, north of
Italy, Greece and Malta. The video combines images from campsites and villages of the Costa Brava
(Catalonia) during the low season and an audio in which a French retired woman helps me to pronounce
the lyrics of "Emmenez moi”. It is a 1967 song made popular by Charles Aznavour that refers to the
desire of traveling to the paradise as promised by the French colonialist propaganda of that time.
The digital prints include Google Earth screenshots and graphics from statistical data.
